Turning Childhood Curiosity Into a Purpose-Driven Career

During the 2025 graduation ceremony at Busoga International Polytechnic, one student’s story stood out for its clarity of purpose — Babweteera Simon Peter, a graduate of the Electrical Engineering programme.

His interest in electrical work began in childhood, shaped by two things: a fascination with how electrical systems power everyday life, and the power shortages he witnessed growing up. These experiences ignited his determination to be part of the solution for Uganda’s energy future.

🔧 Growing Through Challenge and Practice

Throughout his studies, Simon Peter built not only technical skills but also resilience, discipline, and analytical strength. Mathematics and physics — initially tough subjects — pushed him to develop new study habits and deeper problem-solving skills.

Hands-on training with real electrical equipment transformed these challenges into confidence, helping him understand how theory becomes practical application.

He describes these difficult moments as the foundation of his growth: challenges that shaped him into a more capable, focused engineer.

🌍 A Vision for Uganda’s Energy Future

Simon Peter is committed to contributing to reliable, sustainable, and accessible energy systems in Uganda.

After graduation, he plans to extend his expertise through further studies and real industry experience. His long-term vision is to join the generation of engineers who innovate, improve, and modernize Uganda’s energy sector.

He is eager to learn from mentors, join real projects, and explore solutions that bring lasting change to communities across the country.

💡 Lessons That Shaped Him

He shares that his biggest course challenges became his strongest lessons.

Complex units demanded patience and consistency — and he learned that growth in engineering comes from showing up, practicing, and refusing to give up.

To future students, he offers simple but powerful advice:

Stay focused. Be patient. Use every facility available. And believe you can grow.

❤️ Gratitude and the Road Ahead

Simon Peter expresses deep gratitude to Busoga International Polytechnic for giving him the chance to pursue his dream. He also thanks his lecturers, peers, and family for supporting him through every step.

And his journey isn’t ending here — he is returning to continue Level 3 BTEC, taking the next step toward becoming a highly skilled Electrical Engineer ready to lead change in Uganda’s energy landscape.
