During President Yoweri Museveni visit to the UAE in November 2017, President Museveni held a jovial meeting with Sharjah Ruler, HH Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al-Qasimi where the two leaders discussed cooperation in areas of education, health and vocational training. HH Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al-Qasimi generously offered to donate the construction of a vocational institute and President Museveni pledged to provide the land. Subsequently the Ministry of Education and Sports, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, on the relationship between the two countries to extend bridges of cooperation by establishing the Busoga Institute of Technology, specialized in vocational and technical training in Uganda. The aim of the project is to address the shortage of skilled labour in key industries in the province of Busoga in particular and Uganda in general, thus addressing one of the main reasons for high unemployment and low productivity. By establishing a vocational training centre in the town of Jinja the supply of adequate labour force will be addressed in industries with a high potential for growth, namely: oil and gas; manufacturing and construction; wood processing and textile manufacturing.
Personalized Approach Our engineering programmes enable young people to get high-quality industry skills and qualifications they need. Our industrial workshops will ensure that our students are exposed to real life engineering. All programmes are fully packed with extra practical hours ensuring that industry skills are key factor within the learning experience. In order to strengthen the quality of vocational programmes BIP is recognized by UK awarding body, Pearson BTEC. We offer engineering programmes comprising of Mechanical, Electrical, and Fluid Mechanics in addition to construction programmes. Our qualifications are available in many sizes and all sizes focusing on achievement of Level 2 with future plans to offer Level 3 Diploma qualifications. As BTEC qualifications do not involve students sitting examinations and work is internally assessed, it is essential that systems and procedures are strictly followed so that necessary documentation is completed accurately and thoroughly by establishing a Quality Assurance and Assessment System. BIP has a robust system enabling certifications to be managed effectively, and actively encourage and promote good practice.
BIP provides tailored training for workers in both basic and advanced production techniques. In the short run, this will make existing jobs more secure and mitigate the challenges associated with the need for new employees. In the long run, it will enable knowledge and technology transfers from abroad, increasing productivity and creating new high-value added jobs. The project relies on partnerships between the private and public sector to ensure long-term sustainability of the training centre. Moreover, the partnership will insist upon public-private dialogue to build more coherent and specific workforce development initiatives.
We work with local and international entities in the upskilling of aspiring engineering technicians covering emerging and crucial fields in engineering like fabrication pipe welding, carpentry, electrical installations and plumbing.
